The Sausage Underground - Reprise - 2015

I don't really consider the New Year to have begun until the invite is made for me to join the Sons of Sopressata for the annual meeting of The Sausage Underground. Steeped in tradition, fueled by male discourse and booze this is one event I rarely pass on. This year #800 lbs of sublime Sopressata was made…hopefully it lasts until next year.

Ontario Knife Co - OKC3S USMC Bayonet

Now, the current President of the United States might not find this a useful or relevant weapon any longer but every United States Marine Corps, troop is equipped with and trained how to use one of these still. Made by the Ontario Knife Company, Franklenville, NY. Might want to check with the guys that you send into battle before you shit talk the gear we (tax payers) outfit em with. Makes me want one on my AR somethin' bad. Xmas 2012 Wish List just got kicked off.

Ka-Bar Johnson - Adventure Baconmaker and Potbelly

I have been on hog hunts and really enjoy the sport and the accoutrement's that surround it. So far pistol and rifle have been the weapon of choice but as I learn more about the hunt I am slowly moving with an interest in the traditional method of hunting pigs with a blade. The Baconmaker supposedly goes through boar shields "like a hot knife through butter." I reckon it might be a tool in my chest at some point and time.

These knives are based on designs by Steve Johnson, Field Editor for Boar Hunter Magazine and part-time knife designer.

Knives of Alaska - Denali Folding Knife

In my preparations for Africa I have decided to bring a good, reliable folding knife as opposed to the standard fixed blades I typically use when hunting in the states. Travel considerations including weight and airport bullshit played heavily in this decision. I decided to go with my favorite Knife company, Knives of Alaska. The Denali folding blade is a perfect choice. It has a rugged D-2 tool-steel blade and large pivot pins with a blaze orange handle so I don't lose it in the bush.

Blade length: 3-1/8".
Overall length: 8-3/4".
Weight: 6 oz.
