Lost Sailor - Ink
Since I first got inked high school, I have yearned to get a traditional clipper ship tattoo. For me, that image hearkens back to a time when men traveled and 'got under the skin' of their environs. But as tattoo's go most people usually start with art that has meaning, relevance of family or images that represent a time and space. I have those now. This month I finally took the time to get the boat. It also happens that I love the lyrics of Lost Sailor and the images it conjures. I opted for a dark & stormy adaptation. I'm not a sailor. I'm a land locked, Lost Sailor. Nik Pew of Landmark Tattooing manned the helm.

A Cohort Pay's Attention
I just became the squire of a very well worn, richly patina'd, Stetson Open Road. Bout a half year ago I picked up my first Open Road after longing for one for some time. Some people see a hat, others see a reason why you don one. Yesterday a good buddy of mine gifted me with what some might see as 'just an old hat.' Turns out it's a venerable, bucket oozing with character.
The band has been re-stitched.
The sweatband torn. Branding illegible.
The lining is sagging and sweat stained. The crown has perforations on each deck. The brim is potato chipped. The beaver felt, filthy. It's fuckin' rad.

L.L. Bean/Boston Red Sox Limited Edition Bean Boot
I thought my eyes were fucking with me when I caught a few minutes of the Boston Red Sox, 2013 World Series Championship celebration on TV. I swore I saw one of the players wearing a pair of bright red (uppers and lowers) L.L. Bean boots. I was right. I can only imagine what these babies are selling for on the red market. Arguably one of the rarest, bad-ass collaboratives around.

Reproofing the Barbour Beaufort
Thirteen years ago I picked up my first Barbour at Harrod's in London. The jacket has seen me through rainy bullfights, countless days in the uplands chasing birds, stormy nights clearing roof gutters and just about everything else. Those of you that own a Barbour know the simple pleasure of this tool. In the past I have done some minor re-proofing on my own but a few weeks back I decided to send it off to Alain, at New England Reproofers for some real time on the bench and proper repair work. The cotton was dry, zippers stuck, tears all over the place. A true warrior in need of some love.

Stetson - The Open Road - My New Lid
My father's Uncle Trifono Kochiovelos (TDK) was a pivotal figure in my youth and sense of style. He was a Pueblo, CO Sheriff, sheep rancher and 'real man' before the term existed. He raised my father and three siblings. He had a roll top desk. So did I. I inherited his Winchester 1873, two Colt, Army Special .38's and a love of his Stetson, The Open Road. Unfortunately, I didn't get the hat. I got one now. He was not alone in appreciating an iconic piece of men's haberdashery.
