Campaign Furniture Co. - Overland Chair

There is nothing quite as rewarding as sipping a G&T round the fire pit as the sun dips below the horizon and the sounds of the bush come alive. Unfortunately most modern African safari operators use cheesy nylon and plastic camp chairs like many people use to tail gate or bandy round the fire when camping stateside. My search for a proper campaign chair finally came to an end at this years Dallas Safari Convention. Amidst the flurry of dangerous game specials and 'bling-ed' out safari jewelry was a real gem. Campaign Furniture Company. The Overland Chair could well be the finest piece of safari inspired kit I have sat my thin ass on.

Coupled with the Travel Box that conveniently evolves into a proper side table and you have the makings for a very proper apres' safari. Not to mention the gal representing the furniture was not your typical hunting convention broad. Tattooed, pierced and just plain sexy.

Conveniently stores its legs and one Overland Chair.

Spring Turkey - Skunked

Late Friday night I got the call for a last minute invite to chase Toms on a very well developed waterfowl property in the Golden Triangle, East of Denver. I blew off the family Easter celebration and headed out with visions of dragging tail feathers and blood engorged heads in my mind. Unfortunately, this year I didn't pull the trigger. Three Jake's within ten feet...No Beards!

Charles & Ray Eames would have been as shocked as I was to see two Eames 670 knock-offs in the Waterfowl Camp. Brilliant!

Wendell Lovett - Preway Fireplace

My affinity for MCM architecture long ago set me on the path of collecting interesting pieces of design for my home. I bought this Original Preway Fireplace designed by famed Seattle Architect, Wendell Lovett some years back from a neighbor that picks furniture. Never used, tags in place, original manual and setting putty. I keep it in the garage in anticipation of building my future hunting cabin.

Abercrombie & Fitch - Leather RHINO Ottoman

Before Abercrombie & Fitch became a lame retailer for high school kids fashion it was a high end gentleman's store that stocked shotguns, wingshooting apparel, safari gear and the like. My father had the foresight (and kookiness) back in the seventies to purchase one of these massive leather ottomans for our home in Vail. When the thing showed up we didn't know what to say. My brothers and I would ride it and friends that came over would talk about it all night long. A few months back my parents gifted me this fine piece of design. Originally made by Omersa of London, these large pieces were commissioned by A&F for the NYC and Dallas stores. You don't see many of these big ones or "Superkings" (about 71" long and 18" high)but the little ones are around. This beast is a family statement and one that my kids will hopefully charge. Thanks mom and dad.

Kobalt - Baby Changing Table

My wife insisted on a "Changing Table" for our second child. This was the compromise. Kobalt 4 Drawer Rolling Tool Box. Utilitarian, functional and useful beyond infancy. Personally I think its one of my grandest interior design implementations yet.

Bonus, it locks and I can use it for my tools in a few years.
